The Andy Griffith Show Trivia Contest – 2011
The Andy Griffith Show premiered Monday, October 3, 1960 on CBS television.
This was perfect timing for life-long fan, Dwain W. Penn, since he premiered on this earth on Thursday, June 9, 1955. Penn was five years old when he began watching the show, growing up with Opie Taylor, played by Ronny Howard. The habit of watching the show continues fifty one years later.

To celebrate this landmark in quality television entertainment, New Hebron Baptist Church hosted a trivia contest on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 3 p.m. Grand prize, a complete DVD set of The Andy Griffith Show, a $150 value, was won by Kevin Roberts and Lorna Griffin of Fayette County. Second prize of $50 cash was won by Pike County residents Mitchell and Michael Vaughn. Melanie and Joey Hutchens of Douglas County won the $20 third prize.
This year, 2011, the contest will be held on September 18 at 3 p.m. All contestants registering to play may attend a special luncheon at the church beginning at 1 p.m. This will allow participants to fellowship with other fans of the show. The food line will be closed by 2 p.m., so come as early as possible for lunch.
The contest will be double elimination – two wrong answers and you’re out. The final contestant will have to answer two questions correctly before being declared the winner. Questions for the contest were compiled by Dwain Penn and were not taken from any commercial trivia game.
Contestants may register and compete as teams. Each member of a team will get two wrong answers prior to elimination, so a team of 3 will have 6 misses. Individual contestants will receive one bonus wrong answer to level the playing field.
Registration cannot be made on this website. Please call 770-567-4113 (or email firstname.lastname@example.org before September 12) to register for the contest and reserve your place for lunch. All registrants leaving a message on the answering machine will receive a call-back to confirm the registration. Sometimes the machine malfunctions and does not record a call. If you do not receive a call-back within three days after leaving a message, kindly call again or you will not be able to participate on September 18. Thank you for your understanding. [Penn has yet to fully enter the 21st century – he still carries a pocket watch!]
Even if you don’t participate in the contest, come out and enjoy a unique, historic church located in the hay fields of Pike County and fellowship with other fans of The Andy Griffith Show. Refreshments will be served after the trivia contest.
